To make the double strength coffee use I tablespoon of coffee per cup. The sugar should be adjusted to your taste.

The Coffee liqueur (Kahlua etc.) is optional and will affect the length of time it takes to freeze.

Traditionally making Granita (Italian for Gravel - how the chunks appear) has been very labour intensive. The ingredients are combined placed in a flat tray and put in a freezer. Then every half hour the tray is taken out and scraped with a fork to break it up. and once more just before serving.

However if you don't have the time to do that. the following is a fairly acceptable substitute.

Combine the ingredients let them cool. pour into an ice cube tray - a standard ice cube tray will hold about a pint.

Freeze them overnight.

Take out a few of the ice cubes - enough just to cover the base of your food processor. Pulse a few times then scrape out into pre chilled serving dishes. I use wine or champagne glasses. repeat this for the number of guests you have.
